Why not check-in with yourself about how you're feeling at this moment?
I recently came across this simple idea on the Action Podcast Blog.  A great site full of podcast episodes and blog posts from some life coaches in the UK. 
The idea: just use 3 words to describe how you feel at this exact moment.  Step 2-think about what do you want to do with that. Sounds like a quick activity worth a try.
Why not share this info with others and ask them the same? Use it as a powerful alternative to "How are you?". Then you can clearly identify (and communicate) what you're feeling and need.
